This year’s Icon model will be based off the Heritage Classic 114

Last month, we broke the news that Harley-Davidson was preparing a bike called the Hydra-Glide Revival as its 2024 Icon model. All we knew at the time was the model name, and the fact it was certified by an executive order from the California Air Resources Board with the Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine alongside several Harley-Davidson Softail models. We now have further details about the Hydra-Glide Revival, including its model designation FLI.

This time, the information comes to us via homologation filings released in Switzerland, including the vital vehicle data and some preliminary specifications. As we initially reported, the Revival part of the name makes it clear it is for this year’s Icon model, just like the first model in the collection, 2021’s Electra Glide Revival, while the Hydra-Glide references the first Harley-Davidson model with hydraulic suspension. The FLI model designation, however, is new.

The specifications in the Swiss document all but confirm that the FLI is based on the Heritage Classic 114. The Hydra-Glide Revival and the Heritage Classic share several specifications, including their 108 mph top speed, 95.1 inch length, and combination of a 130/90B16 73H front and 150/80B16 77H rear tire. The only other recent Harley-Davidson model that shares these exact specifications is last year’s Anniversary Edition Heritage Classic.

There are some differences, of course. They’re both listed as having the same engine codes and exhaust, a 1,868 V-Twin claiming a maximum of 93.9 hp at 5,020 rpm, but strangely, the Hydra-Glide Revival is listed with a slightly higher torque output, at 117.3 lb-ft. at 3,000 rpm compared to the Heritage Classic’s listed at 114.3 lb-ft. at 3,250 rpm.

The Hydra-Glide Revival is 0.8 inches wider than the Heritage Classic, 3.5 inches taller, and about 4.4 pounds heavier, changes that could be accounted for by a different windscreen or other accessories.

We don’t know what colors the new Hydra-Glide will come in, but we suspect it will be inspired by a color option offered on the original models that bore the name. We also don’t know when Harley-Davidson will officially announce it. The Electra Glide Revival and last year’s Electra Glide Highway King were announced in the spring while the 2022 Low Rider El Diablo wasn’t announced until September.
