2025 Triumph Trident Triple Tribute Special Edition – First Look
Special edition honors the TT-winning “Slipper Sam” Trident
Triumph revealed a new special edition Trident 660 that pays tribute to the “Slippery Sam” Trident that won five consecutive Isle of Man TT races through the ’70s.
The Trident Triple Tribute Special Edition sports a white, blue and red color combination inspired by the 750cc Triumph Trident that won five consecutive races in the production 750cc class at the Isle of Man between 1971 and 1975. The Slippery Sam nickname came about at the 1970 Bol d’OR 24-hour endurance race, where a team mistakenly mixed mineral oil with racing oil, creating a blockage that sprayed oil all over the bike and its rider. Through some miracle, that #67 Trident still finished fifth.
“Since its launch in 2020, this middle-weight roadster has reinvigorated this highly competitive category, selling more than 35,600 units worldwide,” says Paul Stroud, Triumph chief commercial officer. “It’s triple engine and premium detailing at a great price, has been successful in bringing younger and new riders to Triumph, and just as ‘Slippery Sam’ once inspired a generation, we believe this special edition has the iconic style, extra technology, and dynamic performance to appeal to today’s Triumph fans.”
The special edition model features that same number on a red tank graphic, where the white and blue paint meet. The three colors are repeated on the front fender, tail, and, standard on the special edition model, fly screen. The special edition also comes standard with Triumph’s Shift Assist bi-directional quick shift and a belly pan.
Mechanically, the special edition model is similar to the regular production Trident. The engine is the same 660cc Triple, claiming 80 hp at 10,250 rpm and 47 lb-ft. at 6,250 rpm. Twin Nissin front brakes and Showa suspension and Michelin Road 5 tires are also unchanged.
The 2025 Triumph Trident Triple Tribute will arrive in North American dealerships in April, carrying a price of US$8,595 or CA$10,195.
