Honda Dax125 Coming to US for 2025
Who doesn’t love sausage dogs?
American Honda is preparing to add a new member to its Minimoto lineup in the funky Dax125. Also known as the ST125, the Dax has been available in Europe since 2023, but will finally be coming to the U.S. for 2025.
The confirmation comes to us via the California Air Resources Board which released an executive order certifying the Dax125 as a 2025 model.
The Dax stands out with its T-shaped frame, which makes it resemble a sausage dog, or dachshund, which is how the bike gets its name. The original Dax models were introduced in Europe and the U.S. in 1969 in two displacements as the CT50 and CT70. Both models shared an engine with a Super Cub model.
The latest model uses the same 124cc air-cooled SOHC engine as the Monkey and Grom. The European-spec model claims a peak output of 9.3 hp at 7,000 rpm and 8.0 lb-ft. at 5,000 rpm. Honda says the Dax can reach a cruising speed of 56 mph riding two-up. The engine is mated to a four-speed manual transmission with an automatic centrifugal wet clutch. The transmission has a N-1-2-3-4 shifting pattern, and from a standstill, a rider can pre-select the gear they want and when the throttle opens, the transmission will automatically cycle up or down through the gears to reach it.
The T-shaped pressed steel frame houses the 1.0-gallon fuel tank. The 12-inch wheels are the same ones used on the Grom, with a 120/70 tire up front and a 130/70 at the rear. Up front, we have a 31mm inverted fork with 3.9 inches of travel, while the rear uses twin shocks with 4.7 inches of travel. The rear wheel has a single 190 mm brake disc, while the front uses a 220mm disc, and an IMU-based ABS comes standard in Europe.
Other features include full LED lighting, an LCD display, a claimed 235-pound wet weight, a 30.5-inch seat height, and a claimed range of about 155 miles on a full tank of gas.
We don’t know when Honda will formally announce the Dax125 for America, or how much it will cost. In Italy, it is priced at €4,290 (US$4,645), putting it somewhere between the Grom and the Monkey. That means we should expect it to come in a little under $4,000 for the U.S.

These are great little bikes if you have some property or as a pit bike. But tiny and slow is not a good recipe for street riding.
I like the minimotos, but my first bike was a CB100. Sym kept making that bike as a 150 until a couple years ago. I think Honda ought to do something like that - more rational for the street, and a lot of fun. (I was tempted to buy the Sym 150, but I already had my R1150R, and I couldn't justify it in my budget... at my age, it would probably be a replacement for the 1150R.)
