Trademarks Confirm Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear and Classic 650

Royal Enfield has been making a bigger push of late with its 650 platform, with the new Shotgun 650 and Super Meteor 650 joining the older INT650 and Continental GT. The Indian brand is showing no intentions of slowing down, as trademark filings made in multiple markets including the U.S. and Europe confirm two more models in the works: the Interceptor 650 Bear and the Classic 650 Twin.

Of the two, we believe the Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650 is likely to come out soonest, as RE’s parent company, Eicher Motors, initially filed trademark applications for the name in April 2023, with a separate filing in the U.S. for “Royal Enfield INT Bear 650” (Honda holds claim to the use of the Interceptor name with motorcycles in North America). We didn’t hear much about the name for a while after that, as Royal Enfield was focused on the Shotgun and and Super Meteor models, but things began to pick up again earlier this month, when Eicher filed an application for a bear-shaped logo.

Filing to protect a wordmark is an important step, but when a company files trademarks for an accompanying logo, that’s typically a sign that a product is getting closer to market.

From its name, it’s obvious the Bear will be based off of the Interceptor 650 (or INT650 as it’s known in North America, likely in deference to Honda’s claim to the Interceptor name). The bear imagery suggests some off-road capability, so we assume the Interceptor Bear 650 will be a scrambler variant, along the lines of what Triumph offers with its Modern Classic line.

Speaking of Classics, Eicher filed a new trademark application in Europe on May 9 for “Royal Enfield Classic 650 Twin”. It’s not too difficult to guess what the bike will look like from its name. Royal Enfield already produces a single-cylinder Classic 350 (pictured below), so the Classic 650 Twin will essentially be a larger model with the same engine as the other 650s.
