Triumph Reveals New Motocross Engine
A behind-the-scenes look a Triumph's Thumper
Triumph released a new video offering a sneak peak at the engine for its upcoming new motocross bike, with appearances from brand ambassador Ricky Carmichael, engineers and Triumph Racing managers, plus the SuperMotocross team of Bobby Hewitt, Dave Arnold, Ivan Tedesco, Stephen "Scuba" Westfall, and Vincent Bereni from Triumph's MX2 team.
“This engine has its own identity and I think one of the best things about it is the way that it's designed and developed, which enables riders with a very wide range of abilities to be able to ride the bike,” says Carmichael. “It's light and compact and the power delivery is great for all forms of riders.”
Triumph didn't offer any specific technical details, but we can assume from the involvement of Bereni of the MX2 team that it will be in the 250cc class, and a 450 model will surely follow.
This is the second in a series of videos showcasing different elements of the motocross machine. The first video, also featuring Carmichael et al., focused on the aluminum frame design. The next episode, dropping Sept. 5, will feature Carmichael himself riding the bike.
Triumph hasn't said when it will release full information on the as-yet-unnamed model, but we can probably expect the motocross bike to be a big part of its EICMA display.

Very interesting and ambitious of Triumph. Unless they come out with a whole line of small displacement street legal models this doesn't make much sense. I applaud any manufacturer going through the time and expense for such an undertaking but this will be an uphill battle with all the established manufactures who have been around for decades.
I love that Triumph. is getting back into racing ??? I have been racing Triumphs for 76 years. Always street bikes modified to race, old AMA class C stuff. Not annything new, now to take a good MotoX er and mofifie it into a dirt flat tracker. 😊
