What Motorcycle Racing Series Do You Follow? – Question of the Day
Let’s show some love to some great, but lesser known racing series
A major racing news bombshell dropped on, of all days, April 1, as Liberty Media, the owner of Formula 1, announced it was acquiring Dorna Sports, and both MotoGP and World Superbike racing. Of course, it was no joke, especially not when a $3.8 billion dollar transaction is involved. While it’s too early to know how this development will change things, we’ve already seen concerns raised about how much it will cost to watch these racing series, either on television, streamed, or in person.
We’ve also seen comments in last week’s story about other forms of motorcycle racing. MotoAmerica is the top domestic road racing series in the U.S., with flat track, motocross, and supercross all having strong followings, and in recent years, bagger racing has gotten increasingly popular. Internationally, there are other nations' domestic series, plus events like the Dakar Rally and the Isle of Man TT that carry an aura of mystique around them.
And of course, there are other types of racing that maybe don’t get as much attention, but probably should. So, let’s highlight some of them for our Question of the Day: What kinds of motorcycle racing do you follow, or perhaps, would like to follow more closely?
For me, personally, my pick would be Sidecarcross. Those rigs flying through a motocross course with a passenger leaning hard into the corners are quite a sight to behold. The 2024 FIM Sidecarcross season starts in a couple of weeks, but last year’s racers are available on its official YouTube channel.
